2017 SAG Awards are now in the history books. The Screen Actor's Guild Awards shows are unique in that actors and actresses are awarded by their peers. It's one thing for an academy to say you've got skills and something different when your peers appreciate your talents and gifts.
This is awards season in full swing. In saying that, I wasn't able to catch this particular show but I highlighted Taraji P. Henson because of the image I saw on Instagram. I follow Taraji's wonderful makeup artist, Ashunta Sheriff. She has her own makeup line and has been painting famous and beautiful faces for years. She is well-known in the industry and has garnered the attention of many artists and makeup enthusiasts alike.
What stands out to me about this photo is the fact that everything was so perfectly and well-done. When I first looked, I noticed the beautiful dress that the SAG Award winner is wearing. It REALLY stood out to me. In an amazing way. It's simply eye-catching. Her hair and makeup were beautiful without being overbearing or overly noticeable. They both stand out. It's just that they flow instead of "compete."
What a wonderful job her hairstylist, Tym Wallace and her fashion stylist, Jason Bolden did for her! It was befitting for a winner.
Congrats to ALL winners! Well-deserved!
2017 Golden Globes In Review
Award season is back for 2017.
This time of year is pretty awesome for the fans of Hollywood fashion, hair and makeup. The Golden Globes were last night. We got a taste of what the season would be bringing us and it was pretty.
I'm going to briefly touch on a few highlights.
Tracey Ellis-Ross, Kerry Washington and Sofia Vergara gave us beautiful peek-a-boo sophistication with their choice of gown. Each look was tastefully done. The hair and a makeup complemented well.
Viola Davis looked radiant in her yellow. It really popped with her skin tone. She does not disappoint with her makeup, hair and gown choices. The yellow particularly stood out because it was bright yet not overly done. It was 'eye-catching'.
Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon looked great in yellow. Ms. Washington let the makeup do the talking with her bold bordeaux lip while Ms. Witherspoon took a softer approach with her makeup. Both were great choices for the actresses.
Powder blue was also stunning. Jessica Chastian looked stunning in her gown. It was prefect with her red hair. Black and black and white are always classic. These colors were seen quite a bit along with softer colors palettes including silvers, grays and golds. Goldie Hawn was a beauty in all black. Sequins and sparkly dresses made a strong appearance.
Wine and deep colored lips were in full swing. There were several red lips too and they were gorgeous. Those colors went well with the gown choices. There were some smoky eyes too but lips really took over this season. It's nice to see this shift in makeup on the red carpet.
Let's also talk about how great the men looked too! Very dapper. We often focus on the gowns but the men are looking great too. Let's talk about how GOOD Brad Pitt was looking last night, shall we??
Congrats to Meryl Streep for winning the lifetime award. She is absolutely one of my favorites for so many reasons. There were some great wins-including La La Land making history with 7 wins-more than any other film ever.
Congrats to all winners of the evening!
Emmys 2016 In Review
Well, the 2016 Emmys have come and gone.
As an artist and lover of all things art and beauty, I'm always excited to see what looks creative teams come up with for their celebrity clients.
There were some beautiful dresses on the carpet and lots of color. I really enjoyed seeing color and how well the tones complimented so many of the women walking the carpet. Cut outs were big too and worn tastefully well. Kerry Washington really amazed with her tasteful cut outs showing her baby bump.
Priyanka Chopra looked amazing in her red dress! The red lip was perfect with her beautiful dress without being overdone. That takes talent and skill to pull off. You could totally tell that she was comfortable in her gown and that it really made her feel beautiful. Her look was classically beautiful.
Many of the ladies on the carpet chose to go with soft makeup while there were some that chose to go bold. I personally like them all. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
In saying that, Emily Ratajkowski (pictured above) really decided to be bold with her makeup this go 'round. It is what I like to call a "butterfly cat eye." The color and design of this colorful graphic eye remind me of a butterfly. Since butterflies are all about change, we clearly see that here with the decision to go bold with makeup and more demure with the dress styling. We also see the change in the makeup itself-going from color to graphic design. I like. Hung Vanngo is the master behind this beautiful makeup styling. Way to go!
There is a lot to be said about mature and classic beauty as well. Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and Lily Tomlin-just to name a few-were gorgeous as well. For me, I really liked how each lady knew exactly what to do with her makeup. It wasn't overdone. For me, this is what mature beauty is all about.
The 2016 Emmys are now history but we do have trends that are sure to stick around for quite awhile. The styling of so many ladies was just beautiful and I enjoyed seeing each one show her beauty off in her own, unique way. Congrats to all the winners! Until next time. . .
